Obedience is a Dance
Our job is not to make our own rhythm, but to align with His beat, the beat of His heart. Obedience isn’t real if it does not come from the heart. Otherwise, when you do something out of the attitude of “I have to” you are basically walking out a prison sentence:
doing your time in the Word
doing your time with good works
doing your time at church
doing your time in worship, etc
Then, after your sentence is up, then you are free to do what you really want to do. This is warped. Shouldn’t you really want to obey God? Shouldn’t you really want to spend time with Him in His Word, serving others, worshiping with others at church, etc.? When you think of freedom, shouldn’t you think of Christ? Shouldn’t our thinking be, I can’t wait until I get out of work so I can be free to spend time with Jesus, instead of, I can’t wait to get out of work so I can be free to catch up on my shows, relax, eat, drink, spend time with friends, etc? Those things aren’t wrong, but if time with Him is looked at as prison time and time in those things is looked at as freedom, then something is wrong. I say these things not to bring shame or condemnation, but awareness. If you think this way, then that is an indication that your relationship with Him is not what it should be. You can’t change something you are not aware of. Now that you know He does not have your whole heart, what will you do about it?
Below is how I want to view obedience: not as a burden, not as prison time, but as us moving in harmony with Him, like a dance.
Obedience is a dance.
A move in line with Your will.
My “want to” not my “have to”. So natural now, not by chance. My heart in tune with Yours.
I hear the beat, and I move.
Because You moved.
In perfect harmony, We move.
Because You moved.
Thru storms, the wind and the rain, I move. Because You moved.Obedience is a dance.
The dance of love
On purpose, not by chance No rope pulling me
No prison constraining me So natural, perfect harmony So free, He’s not making me.Obedience is a dance I hear and I move
I see and I move Because He moved We move.Obedience is a dance
Your “want to”, not your “have to”.
The dance of love, on purpose, not by chance. No force in love
No pressure in love
No anger in obedience
No sorrow in doing His will
Perfect harmony with His heart.
You hear, you see, and you move
Because He movedObedience is a dance
My heart in tune with Yours
My “want to”, not my “have to.” You say I’m Yours, so I’m Yours. Chest to chest, heart to heart So close, we’re one
I hear, I see, I move
Because You moved.Obedience is a dance. He really is the One
My heart? No.
His heart? Close.Our heart? Yes!
We really are One
Chest to chest, heart to heart.I hear Our beat, and We move. Our heart in tune.
Obedience is a dance. There’s no other way.
