Acts of Kindness

The last time I wrote you, I encouraged you to use this time to make sure that when life returned to our “new normal” that you were different; that you turned into the “butterfly” that you wanted to be. That still holds true. Do you know what’s also true? While you are working on you, there is still room for you to help someone else work on them. Romans 15:1-3 TPT says, “Now, those who are mature in their faith can easily be recognized, for they don’t live to please themselves but have learned to patiently embrace others in their immaturity. Our goal must be to empower others to do what is right and good for them, and to bring them into full maturity. For not even the most powerful One of all, the Anointed One, lived to please Himself.” So, let me ask you: Is there a sister in Christ that has been on your heart lately that you have been putting off reaching out to? Perhaps now is the time to do it!?

It’s also important to remember, however, that acts of kindness are not just for us to extend to Believers. There is a whole world out there that can use our help, and many ways in which we can help them. Here are some examples:

  • You can do some shopping for an elderly person that really shouldn’t be leaving the house right now.

  • You can be that benevolent landlord who forgives their tenants rent for a couple of months.

  • You can call a couple of those quirky older friends of your mom who live alone and can really use a phone call.

  • You can bring your disabled neighbor’s garbage-can to the curb every week on trash night.

  • You can donate money to help buy computers for inner city kids so they can keep up with their school work.

  • You can mail someone a financial blessing who has lost their job and is still waiting for their unemployment benefits to kick in.

Do none of these examples grab you by the heart strings? That’s fine! Grab some coffee or tea and sit before the Lord and ask Him what you can do to be a blessing to someone else. Remember, ALL acts of kindness have the potential to create such gratitude in the heart of the receivers that they instinctively look up to God in wonder. Kindness and generosity are literal open doors into His presence, and we can be the ones to open that door!

As our time of social distancing keeps increasing, let’s continue to keep seeking the Lord for creative things we can do to make a difference in someone else’s life, even as we are working on our own.
